Speaking about the incident, the accused said he was taking the weapon home from his uncle’s place for protection “due to the coronavirus that was going around.”

"Numbers are still noisy but there are clear signs of slowed growth,” he said.

A police spokesperson said the man “unintentionally shot himself in the hand” and “a part of the bullet struck his daughter in the neck.”

The police report stated that the 73-year-old victim was recovering from surgery at the hospital while the accused was a psychiatric patient.
